Advancing the Human Race?

There’s a philosophical grey area when it comes to the word ‘technology.’ Especially when you’re dealing with science fiction! No one likes a mad robot with a laser gun, right? Is technology taking over? Is technology bad? Can Stephen Hawking use his own voice one day because of technology? Will technology actually benefit the economy? Does it benefit the economy? These are all important questions; but they’re terrifyingly hard to answer.

Technology advancement is something the world sees almost every day. From the Wright Brothers to the Wachowski Brothers and their Matrix movies! Technology is moving always at an alarming rate. But does it move the human race in a good direction, or a bad direction?

Let’s think about some things here:

First off, publishing in, say, the 1960s, there was nothing but stamps and paper. Submissions happened relatively rarely (at least compared to today). Authors were an extremely elite group. Now, because of technology, content has exploded on an open-source arena, thanks to the internet. The question is this: is it a bad thing, or a good thing?

How about the workforce? Back in the old days, telemarketers sat in their little cubicles making countless calls to sell a telephone cleaning service whenever your clunky phones smelled like urine or something like that. Nowadays, telemarketing has largely been automated, and phones have shrunk to the size of sweat peas! Again, the question is this: is it a bad thing, or a good thing?

And that’s just two different industries out of many: the publishing industry and marketing industry! What about schools? Government? Financial Management? Housing?

Look, it’s understandable that you have some people crucifying technology as the bane of human existence. Likewise, some advocates treat technology like a god, a god even greater than God Himself. Shakingly, this writer is okay with that, too. So then what’s the answer to this question: Is technology good or bad? The answer only lies within you.
